CWRs and the National Strategy for Plant Conservation

The Global Partnership for Plant Conservation (GPPC) was established to promote and support the implementation of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation.  In 2002 the GSPC developed 16 targets to help conserve the world’s flora.  In 2005, following a series of meetings and discussions at the National Botanic Gardens a range of 16 targets aimed at conserving Ireland’s plant diversity were developed, these mirror the 16 targets developed by the GSPC.

Target 9 of the Irish Strategy for Plant Conservation specifically aims to -

‘Conserve the genetic diversity of all known indigenous traditional Irish varieties of crop plants, landraces and crop relatives as well as other socio-economically valuable plant species. Read more
